| Phill
Marshall is an internationally acclaimed Lennon impersonator
and is also an accomplished musician and songwriter in
his own right.
Phill
has toured the Americas with top Brazilian based Theatre
show "Beatles 4ever", and the members of the
group remain friends to this day. Phill has also worked
with The Counterfeit Beatles extensively around Britain,
Europe, the Middle East and as far as Japan where they
played 5 shows at the Fuji Rock Festival in 2003. Here,
his Lennon performance was once more highlighted and revered
by the Japanese audience and media. “It was a
bit weird signing autographs and being treated like a
big star, almost like they forgot I’m just an musician/actor.”
Phill
has studied Lennon’s singing and guitar style in
great detail, and also plays the piano, bass and harmonica.
“I always loved Lennon’s style and his
guitar playing is full of intricacies that I only saw
praised by an issue of total guitar a few years ago. Most
people think it simple rhythm guitar - but it’s
anything but”.
Always
interested in acting as well as music, Phill has read
many books on Lennon and has sat through endless hours
of video footage to perfect his idol’s accent, mannerisms
and stage performance. “You have to know everything
about the person and really get into the character to
do this believably”. Phill was short-listed
in a film to play John Lennon by NBC in 2005.
Phill
has a small but respectable collection of Lennon vintage
guitars and the famous VOX AC30 to replicate the Beatle
sound. He also has all the costumes from the original
Beatle’s designs to match the right era. “When
you’re wearing the right gear and playing the right
instruments you can feel the character you’re portraying
and it helps you to give a accurate performance”.
Phill
has always been very fussy about “the gear”! |
